Last company I worked at you could not even do that. I started the truck and left it in neutral with no brake and it shut off at 4 minutes.

Had it shut off on me at a Railroad crossing even.

I remember a thread from a while back where someone had posted about how they rigged up a pneumatic device which would tap on the accelerator every so often in order to keep the truck from shutting down. Wish I could find that thread. Not the most practical method, but a pretty interesting read.

Yes, it all depends on how the ECM is programmed. Unless the truck wheels are moving, it thinks your idling. Some times holding the accelerator over 1,000 RPM will cancel or prolong shut down too.

i drove a 2012 prostar for a bit with FFE and this worked for me...

step 1. grab a LARGE bottle of Gatorade.
step 2. wedge it underneath the brake pedal so that it applies just a tad bit of pressure on the throttle. this is not as easy as it seems at first, but it will fit and should keep the rpms on the motor up around 1,000.
step 3. turn up the heat or the a/c and sleep in comfort.

That time is set in the computer. You can't do anything about it. On some trucks there is a way to bypass. Sometimes you can set the cruise and it will stay on. This crap is why I refused to operate a truck without an APU.

They won't change it. I mean it won't hurt to try. stand your ground and refuse to drive the truck in that way. Your truck systems are not working properly. Either that or demand a nightly hotel. However don't bluff. If you do be prepared to follow through and quit. Trust me, there are better carriers out there that will hire you!
