Last company I worked at you could not even do that. I started the truck and left it in neutral with no brake and it shut off at 4 minutes.
Had it shut off on me at a Railroad crossing even.
How to stop International from shutting off after 5 minutes?

I remember a thread from a while back where someone had posted about how they rigged up a pneumatic device which would tap on the accelerator every so often in order to keep the truck from shutting down. Wish I could find that thread. Not the most practical method, but a pretty interesting read.

Yes, it all depends on how the ECM is programmed. Unless the truck wheels are moving, it thinks your idling. Some times holding the accelerator over 1,000 RPM will cancel or prolong shut down too.

ummmm find a better company that allows idling, or has decent APU's those international bunk heaters are junk
ncmickey Thanks this. -
i drove a 2012 prostar for a bit with FFE and this worked for me...
step 1. grab a LARGE bottle of Gatorade.
step 2. wedge it underneath the brake pedal so that it applies just a tad bit of pressure on the throttle. this is not as easy as it seems at first, but it will fit and should keep the rpms on the motor up around 1,000.
step 3. turn up the heat or the a/c and sleep in comfort. -
