how to test if the heater inside the air dryer is working?

    i would rather just run another line to it from a key on accessory. So is the test to turn the key on and use a test light? the wireharnass to the heater element in the dryer should have power at that point?

    Yes the drier heater needs to see a nice bright test light using the power and ground at the plug.

    There is a thermostat intergraded in the heater element that can add a step to testing it. It will show open circuit at temps above I think 40 deg.
