My school says to slowly roll forward and press the brake pedal to stop. This is a service brake test. We do tug test to check the tractor parking brake and trailer brakes. Apply parking brake (yellow), push in trailer supply (red), transmission in low gear, slowly release clutch until you feel it tug. This would test your trailer brakes. Reverse to check the parking brakes on the tractor. They also said that we won't need to do a service brake test for the DMV???? Having said all that I am only as smart as what they tell me at this point.
How to test trailer service brakes...

All questions on your test will be the multiple guess type. Don't stress about it and just see which answer is the best for the question. Really, ALL of the test is mostly commen sense and if you've read thru the book, took the online tests, it'll be a breeze.

Hmmmm...I wonder how us old dogs would do on a written test?
Where I come from we general refer to the supply line and the service line. Supply charges your air system and release your brakes. Service line is what your brakes are applied with to stop(brake application gauge psi). But you have vaccum and spring brakes but that 's TMI. Blue hand glad connector and red hand glad connector. Blue is the service and Red is the supply. As long as your Red is connected to the trailer you can move but no brakes on the trailer, copy. Yard goats do this and use the tractor brakes to stop. They have there tractor line with a dummy hand glad plug into it. We always did your tug test before hooking lines up. Last time I filled out a log book it was made of paper. -
Glad to see that I'm not the only one confused, lol...

You will fare much better in this biz if you fully understand the braking system on CMV's. It's NOT like your Toyota Corolla. Knowing your brakes and how the system works can save your life. Take some extra time and research it. Know how to adjust and inspect.
