You should check into meditation. I use several guided meditations that last about 15 minutes. They may not work immediately as it is something you have to work on as your body learns to relax on queue but they are effective.

    Good Luck

i guess there are elogs over here, but i've not come across them yet. i'm in a rural area and the company, while one of the larger ones for the area i'm in, only has about 10 trucks. they have paper running sheets. logs would become more of an issue if i was doing east-west runs.

the medication i take to sleep is quetiapine. it doesn't show on any standard drug tests, was't seen as an issue when i got my license and doesn't leave me feeling groggy or hungover the next day.

the first driving job i got was as a team driver (we call it two-up over here). we'd deliver urgent loads to the mines up north and the trips were around 30-36 hours. it was dreadful. i simply could not sleep in the moving vehicle, so by the time we got back, i was so tired it wasn't even funny. i only did 3 trips because i recognised pretty quickly how dangerous it was, driving that tired. the time pressure was enormous, too. as soon as one load was back, there was another team waiting to take the truck up with something else, so when it was my turn to drive, i just had to suck it up and drive, no matter how tired i felt. horrible, horrible job!

with this new job, most the runs are between 10 and 14 hours. i find that at around 10 hours, the fatigue really starts to kick in. if i find a just can't nap on the longer runs, probably getting out and running a few laps around the truck every hour would probably be the next best thing. if the runs were a whole lot longer, i could park up, take my meds and sleep for 7 or 8 hours, then get going again. if the runs were shorter, i wouldn't even need to think about napping.

I have no knowledge of it, I do not take anything at all. I have a bottle of the equate brand of sleep aid pills but in the last year have used maybe 3 of them since I dont feel right when i wake up.

Reading is a good way to get tired too, dress in something comfortable then lay down and read something.

I studied up on this not long ago, the reason the hour doesnt work is because your body goes into a deeper sleep cycle then you wake up feeling more tired, the studies show you get better results keeping the nap under 30min to keep in the first stages, even 8min was found to improve your alertness for a couple hours.
