Hi Everyone,
I look forward to starting/finishing school and starting to work for (Conway and Werner have "prehired" me) but I'm wondering some ways I can eat healthy and exercise while on the road.
Thanks,
L

Park far away from the terminal, or out back at the truckstop, and walk where you need to go. Stay away from the buffet table and grab a salad instead.

There are plenty of threads on this subject. Keep your money in your pocket is the best way to remain healthy and not get fat. Subway can get old, but you've got to find a way to severely limit the amount of junk food you eat and the amount of all-you-can-eat buffets you partake in and you'll be most of the way there and will save some money in the process.
Buy a foot long subway, but goodness sake, don't eat both halves in one meal as many do ... many who have serious weight issues. -
Cook your own meals in the truck (check out the "cooking in the truck" thread) and spend your off duty time being active. Sounds simple, but of course it isn't. You need solid motivation to get off your rear end at the end of a long day and go for a walk. Same goes for taking the time to prepare your own food. The best advice I can give is plan ahead.
I am more of a morning person, so I set the alarm a little early and get some exercise before I start my work day. I also plan out my meals, and get dinner in the crock pot first thing. If you have nothing prepared ahead of time, it is all too easy to just grab a burger and go to bed. But when you've got some turkey chili (for example) in the crock pot and you've been smelling it all day long, that burger don't look so hot in comparison. -
Get yourself a fridge or an extreme ice cooler from walmart and stop in at wallyworlds and buy fresh fruit, salad makings. Subway gets old but has advantages and if in a TA restaraunt or Denny's they have several healthy options along with you can just get soup and salad instead of the buffet. Dont drink too may soda's, drink plenty of water and some good juices.
The other thing you need to do is walk around the parking lot and park far away, instead of close. This will get your blood flowing as you have been sitting all day.pjay Thanks this. -
Members here pretty much said it all. While you're in training you probably won't be getting much exercise the way you want to unless you're laid over for acouple days.At least I assume you'll be training. But once done you can get an hr or 2 everciseing everyday after your driving shift is done. Then there will be many times you'll only drive a few hrs a day. When you stay at a trk stop, get out and walk around it a few times but stay away from the trks or have a dog with you otherwise drvivers will mistake you for a lotlizard unless you're a guy,I can't tell by your screename. Also do as much grocery shopping as you can at walmart or a trucker friendly grocery store.Try and stay away from truckstop food. They're way overpriced and the food is less then desirable.
pjay Thanks this. -
I have been athletic all my life and used to work out everyday but since being on the road I no longer can lift heavy weights and when the only thing available to eat is a Mcdonald's down the street and you are staving you go for it. It is really hard to do unlike at home when you can just stockpile a lot of vegetables and break out the pots and pans to cook on the stove. It is possible but takes extra work so it reaches a point after you have been driving all day to just grab some fast food.

I use to like McDonalds now it's like WHERE'S THE BEEF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I only used McDonald's as an example because they are everywhere, even in old forgotten about towns where there is nothing but grass.
