How thorough is the DOT physical? I am not an athlete but I am feel I am in good enough shape to do the job. The main thing is I have high blood pressure (goes with being above "ideal weight, to put it nicely.)

I hate to quit my job and leave for training with some company only to get axed because of a physical exam.

    Thanks, yu'ns

It really depend on the company you are going to work for. Are you on BP medication? What does your BP usually run? As long as it is 140/90 or lower you will not have a problem.

Thanks for the replies. I am on a med but it's a diuretic (I think all BP meds are though.) Gonna be interesting driving with frequent desires to take a whizz.

Lol...I understand your problem. My doc switched up my meds a few weeks ago. I now spend a lot of time looking for a restroom.

If you have any questions about the DOT Physical talk to your normal doc or a cardiologist about yoru concerns reguarding the DOT BP Requierments and see if they either have a suggestion as far as adjusting your diet, physical activity to lower your BP or whatever they feel would be the most advantageous for youe interests in the trucking industry. You can also check out a web site called web md and se if you can get any answers there as well. Hope this helps and good luck!

Thanks to nurse mom-in-law we have a digital BP cuff. Results not good, like 172/90. But I haven't been taking my meds because of the whizzing thing.

But I will if it is the difference in getting a job or not, hopefully in time the desire to go will go down.

My diet probably ain't helping, alot of what I eat is stuff I just read that hurts the BP. Looks like vegetarians have it best as fruits and fresh veggies are best for your BP.

But my motto has been "Vegetables are not food. . . vegetables are what FOOD eats."

I KNOW I need to take the meds, I just hated that side-effect. :biggrin_25524:
