Btw, the company I work for now uses Google Maps for mileage purposes. So, I rarely get screwed out of pay anymore. In fact, in some instances I discovered shortcuts that are actually shorter than what they pay me on a given dispatch.
how trucking companies determine miles on a run ?

I love the way we do it, the company has a book of flat rates for all cities, towns within the 9 states we operate. Since I'm, paid by percentage, I don't care if the mileage is off or not, within reason. But, here's the nice part, recently did a HHG load going from Denver to Delta, Co. They gave us the address of storage place, what they didn't tell us was only some things went there, the rest went to the house. Dispatch had me track my miles from the storage place to the house and back, then charged them $1.85/mile for those miles, about 61 miles. The customer was not happy when they got the extra charge, but TFB, if they had told us everything from the start, they wouldn't have had the extra mileage charge.
MNdriver Thanks this. -

the industry is a victim of its own self
they cause their own problems IMO
i make pretty good money on my current job
but as soon as i get this hourly job im working on
i am gone
good thing is
you can always get a job
no matter what the economy does -
Move on to somewhere better. I get hub miles and don't have much more experience than you. It's out there.

But also the drivers that figure oh this is going to be a piece of cake. Then they get into this and figure out it aint as easy as they think it is. By no means is this an easy job some might not agree and say any idiot can do it. And yes any idiot can be trained to drive a truck. But it takes a special "idiot" to become a truck driver. Things at with my company might go south. I may go out of business but I'll be driving trucks till they take my cdl away. By no means am I saying we're we drivers are idiots but I have heard people say anybody can drive a truck. Guess anybody can drive one but theres more to driving a truck than grinding gears and turning the steering wheel.Click to expand...Click to expand...
