How well do flatbed rates compare with reefer?

Depends on the employer. Their all different. I've seen as low as 20% up to 35% of the load but that is if your employer is even honest with you.

How much experience do I need to move on? I went out for a month with a trainer (just for flatbed. I can already drive.) Now I've had 3 weeks of it solo. I suppose that isn't much just yet. I know I'll stay at least one more week and a half, because I want to be sure and pick up my next paycheck.

I've heard rumors from other drivers that this company likes to back charge you for things on your last check if you don't stay for at least 7 months. Best to have it in hand. Also they have a reefer division, so I might see if I can get into it first, before deciding to move on. (Pretty sure they'll tell me to wait till 7 months for that too, though.)

The problem with getting experience as a company driver is it comes with a serious downside: dispatchers. Just constantly having to bicker and bicker and bicker, so they don't whittle your delivery time down the bare nubbins. I took a load last week of 48,000 lb past a weigh station without scaling it. Why? Because honestly the delivery time was so close there was about a zero chance it could make it on time if I spent a half hour trying to find the public scale that was supposed to be nearby. I think they were counting on me to simply lie on my log so I could take off earlier.

I just want to do the job and get paid. If getting more experience means my CSA score is going to get stuff on it (or eventually getting fired for having too many service failures) - then maybe I'm better off without it.
