Ahh the good ole days!!! When a good rest area was one that had a payphone. When the truck you were driving was faster then JB Hunts. When Flying J's and Petros were few and far between and being able to frequent one and fuel and shower there was a blessing and a highlight of your run.
Ahh the good ole days!!!! When you could get a speeding ticket in any other state except your own and as long as you paid it. No one was the wiser. When you were trying to slide your axles to adjust weight on your trailer in a truckstop, help was only a CB shout away. When the GW Bridge was only 10 dollars for a big rig to cross. When you could cross country from RI to Chula Vista, CA in 4 days running solo.(I don't recommend anyone trying this.)
Ahh the good ole days!!!!When an un-educated truck driver could make as much if not more then most Harvard Grads. When the back row of the truckstops was known as Party Row and a fearful place to all Common Carriers and what is now known as Bottom Feeders. When the CB radio was the truck drivers only real form of communication.
How were the 'Good ol Days' different

Hello young lady. What do I like about the good ol days? I could jump up on the docks, and jump off the docks, now I stand near the edge, and look for the stairs.Logan76, BigJohn54, road dust and 1 other person Thank this.

A lot of knowledge for just 7 years as a trucker, lol.

Truckstops and Diners where truckers were eating was the place you stopped when you were on the road no matter what you were driving. You were going to get a decent meal at a good price. Those places are rare now. I can only think of a half dozen in the country that might still be around. Used to be you could find one at lunch everyday.
road dust Thanks this. -
Trucking has gotten better, and worse...its more comfortable (better) and its micromanaged (worse).
On any given day...my opinion changes as to whether it is better or worse overall.road dust Thanks this. -
Heh, it's funny how they just seem to get higher and higher

I don't go back that far, but I remember the days of free coffee. You actually had to let up on the accelerator. Black smoke rolling down your trailer. Only a few had condo's. All the big companies had cabovers. Truckers run together instead of against each other. If my dad was still alive, he could tell some stories for sure. He started driving back around 1948.

Those seven years were back in the good ole days. I'm an old man now, in a young mans world. Going to be enjoying an early retirement while still making a little money while doing it.
I figure this will be the last job I will have.So I might as well go out with something that will remind me of the good ole days!!!!!!road dust, okiedokie, Wargames and 1 other person Thank this. -
Just about everyone that drove truck was an American and a relative or friend taught them to drive. Truckers waved at each other. "Good driving" was respected and appreciated. Retirement is only a few 100,000 miles away, thank god.
