How would a Thanksgiving Dinner handout for the truckers be received?

Hi y'all. I'm in the Lower Delaware Valley. This Thanksgiving, I thought it would be nice to cook up as many Thanksgiving dinners as I could, throw them in compartmentalized tupperwares, and drive them out to the local (ish) rest stops and service plazas, and hand them out. I have worked in this industry as a mechanic for 9 years and have my CDL and done recovery runs for my old company. I know how lonely it can get out there, and I know a lot of drivers never make it home for Thanksgiving. So I'd like to do something nice. I may have the backing of the local Catholic Diocese so I think I can amass the manpower and resources to distribute quite a bit of turkey!

My Questions. First off, would it be poorly received by drivers to start knocking on doors to try to hand out dinners? That's my biggest reservation. If I'm gonna ruffle too many feathers trying to do this, it isn't worth it. Second, I can't guarantee the food will still be hot by the time I get to, oh idk, the NJTP Service Plaza from Philly. I'll do the best I can and buy thermal containers, but I'm not sure how well they'll work. Do most of ya'll have a microwave? Are people gonna be upset if I hand them a lukewarm dinner? I'm gonna try to avoid that, but it may be unavoidable with the transport time. Lastly, if this is a good idea, and I actually have enough resources to hand them out at a Truck Stop, is that a bad idea and is the truck stop gonna kick us off their property? I know that TA has a 19.99 Thanksgiving Dinner buffet, (You can enjoy the holidays for $19.99!) and I'd be afraid of angering them and undercutting what they're trying to do.

Anyway, thanks for reading this, any feedback, and your time. Have a great day and stay safe out there!

Truck stops is probably a no go, but rest areas I would say is fair game... back during covid when everybody was locked down, quite a few people were handing out free meals to truckers at rest areas I came across.. gestures like that are always appreciated . Nice to know there is still people that care about drivers... yes most drivers have microwaves in the truck, but let's be honest. Most of us is used to lukewarm food. I wouldn't have any problem with it.

As far as knocking in doors i wouldn't do that , because most times we trying to sleep and if we get a knock it's usually the law telling us to move along... throw a couple signs out on the entrance ramps and maybe a mile from the rest area saying free meals to truckers or whatever then set up a table or something in front of the truck parking, so the drivers can see you and come up to u if they are interested. You might even be able to bum some nearby power from the building to run a couple hot plates or food warmers to keep the food hot n ready..

Who knows the law might come along and ruin the party, but truck drivers are interesting folks, throw some good food and a couple tables to sit down . The stories you would hear would make it more than worth it. I'd bet most of them would throw a couple bucks your way just for the nice gesture. I know I would

First you don’t want to go walking around knocking on trucks. We all sleep different hours and some like me go full on bipolar when woken up.

That said, it’s a very generous thing you’re thinking to do but for me I would decline the offering. Kind of a little nutty about where my food came from and who handled it.

During the early days of Covid I was offered food countless times, mostly from older women trying to help us out. I never took any of it but just having it offered was heartwarming.

Personally I’d just try setting something up locally with your church or Boy Scouts organization..something along those lines.

I know that the county I live in just lost 30 semi trailer loads of food per month to help feed the needy. Would probably be very well received by your community if you did something there.

If you bring a plate to my truck, I'll take that and a couple more! I'll be so appreciative, but others may not be. I'll be appreciative on their behalf.

Since most drivers are obese and homeless they'd greatly appreciate your efforts.

Every day there's a new thread here about some homeless guy looking for a job, or needing sleep studies/CPAPs and spending only a few minutes in any truck stop can confirm the obesity epidemic with your own eyes. Really?!

Assuming this is not a troll post, I'm certain that the NJ turnpike authority (as well as whomever has the food concession for that or any other service plaza) would tell you to get the hell off the property before they call the state police on you. THEN call the health department to check your food service permits as well. I'm assuming the BEST outcome is they would hold you overnight, since the judge was home having, y'know, thanksgiving dinner, and won't be around for a bail hearing until Friday morning.
The 2 times I WAS out on the road over Thanksgiving, I got a perfectly decent meat at a truckstop. We're not poor people, lady! We don't need charity, either.

Okay, I just looked up the waist size requirements for male obesity and according to google was told it is 40 or more inches. Yes you see a lot of large people around driving trucks, but it is no where near 50%-69%. The source you linked that information from is not accurate. In my 12 years of driving regional and otr, just from my own observations I would say it is maybe 1 in 5 being that huge.
