How's Everyone Doing in LTL Right Now?

AFLAC.....my buddy had it and when he got injured, he said between that and WC he was making more money than when he was working.
I never owned a dime in it, and this is not an endorsement. Just something to consider.

 

How is local P&D on the body. Will it destroy you like the food delivery or is it not too bad. Thanks

 

Depends a ton on way too many variables. Be the "strong young kid" and you're likely to move 5k lb pallets uphill from the nose of a 53 foot with the broken pallet jack with lumpy wheels. Be the old fart that has been on P&D for 20 years with a good bid and it's pretty easy.

It's not as bad as food service but it ain't a cakewalk either. The stress of city driving, dispatch, and talking to random people all day everyday would make me absolutely miserable.

I think quality of life has a massive effect on health. I've known drunk smoking drug addicts who party 24/7 live to 80 and die peacefully in their sleep. Meanwhile the straight edge health nut dies of a heart attack at 45.

Being miserable 24/7 for a job is no way to live. P&D is misery to me. Linehaul is pretty solid. A ton of people see it the opposite. But physically P&D is probably the happy medium between moving around enough but not too much or to little.

 

Quick update for y’all:

Linehaul gig is going great, really glad I’m still hourly pay, I’ve almost worked 40hrs in 3 days!! My body is thanking me for making the switch to linehaul.

 

So I finally got to do it today…. Hit one heck of a thunderstorm going up to Grand Forks, so that made things pretty interesting for a bit. It definitely was easier with these than two 28’s. Only thing is I curb checked my back wagon a few times.

 

No sir. Turned just fine, I almost didn’t swing it wide enough at one point though. Ended up curb checking the back box twice, couldn’t be helped either time.

 

Really makes me miss pulling LCVs, although I never got to pull twin 48s like that. Might have to be mindful of how far back the dolly 5th wheel is, because it can be easy to turn too tight and pinch the trailers together.

When I was at US Foods the shuttle drivers would usually slide the tandems up on the back box to help with the turning radius.
