So there's a lot of talk lately of a freight slow down both in the news and even in different threads on this site. Here's one example:
They Are Calling This A “Bloodbath” For The $800 Billion Trucking Industry As U.S. Economic Activity Dramatically Declines
I'm going to be starting CDL school next month and I'm looking at Schneider tanker division out of Houston, TX as my first job. Just wondering how this freight slow down may be impacting this area or tanker freight in general in Houston?
How's Schneider tanker in Houston looking?

My buddy quit there a month ago. Said they are very unorganized. And the pay was horrible. And it didn't have anything to do with a Freight slowdown.

Right now I'm just trying to figure out how the nationwide freight slow down might be impacting tanker freight in Houston? My guess is there's so much petrol-chemical movement around Houston that the overall slowdown is muted here but I'm just trying to verify w/ what people are actually seeing? -
Honestly man Houston is always super busy I'm an owner operator at Schneider currently. I started as a company driver then bought my truck and leased it onto Schneider I'm looking at leaving soon mostly because I'm not satisfied with their program as far as pay goes and I'm hearing much higher numbers from guys at companies like heniff and ergon

I can't really speak for the Houston terminal when I came on with Schneider I worked out of the saraland Alabama qualawash I'm ex military so I did start at a higher pay rate than some might .44 a mile plus accessorial pay for unloading etc the reserve la operating center did a great job of keeping me busy and i was home every weekend for a 34 I averaged around $1000 a week take home some weeks more some less but around that what I can tell you is you're probably going to sit on the weekend if you're not home. dispatchers don't really work on the weekends so if you dont pick something up on Friday you're likely stuck however that could he different out of the Houston oc they have probably the largest amount of freight coming out of that oc it's also generally got the highest paying loads for owner operators it's a starter company get in do your year and go elsewhere the only reason I've been with Schneider for as long as I have is because they allow you to become an owner operator after 6 months of hauling a tanker most people shouldn't do this but I had the means to buy my truck so I did now I've got over 2 years experience and looking elsewhere heniff is seeming like a good option for me but as a starter company Schneider is alright

$1k take home for the first year or two plus the valuable experience would be fine for me, it's actually more than I'm making now at my IT support job.
