Run a google search. It can find it faster for you.

ALL HP laptops owners should run a search once a month. Just to check for recalls and issues.

I own 2 identical bricks because I never heard about a recall before it expired.

HP has gotten notorious about NOT letting the general public know.

Your heatsink is probably clogged with dust and cat hair, causing it to overheat. You'll need to disassemble the case, remove the fan and clean the heatsink fins from the inside. I just did mine about a month ago.

I looked online and found a site showing dv7 disassembly. It looks like you pretty much have to take the whole bottom part down to get to the Fan and CPU? The one acting up is my wife's I bought two identical ones so I could help her over phone with it when I'm on the road. Hp been pretty good so far this is the fourth one. When mine was in warranty hard drive started going bad in St. Louis they diagnosised it over phone and mailed hard drive to house FREE. Istalled in 20 mins. and about three hours to reload operating system. I got laptop to come back on by putting it in fridge for a litte while.
It's running slow and cap lock and Num lock lights flashing still.

Yeah, it's a PITA, pretty much have to take the whole thing apart to clean the heatsink out.

I won't even own another HP product after my last laptop from them died. It was a widespread issue, but they refused to offer a recall. When I called their help desk it was going to be more expensive to have them repair it than it was to just buy a new laptop.

Mine is about 2 years old and no real problems.

I usually only keep them for about that length of time.

We had 4 HP laptops here. No real problems.
One broke lid hinges fixed it my self for about 50 dollars, one had a hard
drive start to fail HP sent me one free and included new OS disc.
Sent vista/ win 7 upgrade disc free for both dv7's.
really can't complain both are over three y/o closer to four.
Repaced CPU and baked the motherboard and wife is happy for now.
Heat the main problem and setting one on lint type fabrics don't help.

this is a method using pen torch. I used a heat gun and laser thermometer
to see how hot it was.
