I'm in C1 finishing up the first week and have a bit of a debate with a classmate. He claims that 99% of companies today pay you mileage for the actual miles that you drive. I read that most companies preroute you and pay route mileage according to how far they think the trip should take you. Who's right?

You are more correct. I only know of one company that pays hub miles and that is Poly Trucking. I am sure that there are some others though.

Honestly, you will get shorted your actual miles driven, for instance, do a 1400 mile run, you'll get paid for 1330. Truck companies have a real good explanation.......the computer ! This system has been going on since the beginning of time.

Almost all companies pay on one of two systems. the Household movers guide or practical route.

In general Household movers guide shorts you more miles then being paid practical route miles. Practical route miles are calculated on shortest legal route but that often means winding back roads or downtown interstates. So even with practical route miles you'll still drive more miles then you actually get paid for.

So in general you don't receive a dispatch to Columbus Ohio and then map it out then get "approval" from dispatch and then drive to your heart's content knowing that you're getting paid for every single mile you roll. This is my classmate's theory.

Usually pay post office to post office of the city or town you are leaving and travelling to. Hub miles means you are getting paid for every single mile and comes out to a lot more but like the other poster had said, very few pay this way.
