The link dns-ok.us is not viral and I am appalled that you have implied.

I seen it on Yahoo news. Nobody needs to get excited. Just give it a few weeks. One clue is your computer will be slower than normal. Odds are very slim you'll be or get infected.

The point of this thread is. You will only get infected if you clicked on the malware in the PAST, not present. The virus is no longer available unless some one is trying to get the FBI's attention for incarceration. The links I supplied were for nothing more than to see if your computer has been affected by the malware. If your dns was changed to one of the rogue dns servers, then come the aforementioned date, those computers will simply not connect.

The easy way of finding your dns # is to open the run box. Type cmd in the box and click on enter. A new box will open. In the new black box type "ipconfig /all".

as long as your dns # does not exist on the list your golden. The shorter easier way was to click on the dns link above. But go ahead and doubt my veracity, I was merely trying to do a good deed and the fellow trucker. Instead I am insulted.

    Viral or virus infected?

    Were you referring to me?

If so, I did not imply, you inferred. I only stated I was wary of any (or most) links.

Update on March 12, 2012: To assist victims affected by the DNSChanger malicious software, the FBI obtained a court order authorizing the Internet Systems Consortium (ISC) to deploy and maintain temporary clean DNS servers. This solution is temporary, providing additional time for victims to clean affected computers and restore their normal DNS settings. The clean DNS servers will be turned off on July 9, 2012, and computers still impacted by DNSChanger may lose Internet connectivity at that time.

FYI, you don't have to go to that website. PMracing quoted above the IP addresses that is affecting your DNS direct on your computer.

Go to your run command in Start, type cmd

Brings up the dos command line

    type ipconfig /all

    or

    type ipconfig /displaydns

In that list you should see what your DNS server IP is, on your system. If it's not in the address range posted above, your good to go. You can also flush that DNS address with the command below.

IP Configuration (Display Connection Configuration) ipconfig /all
IP Configuration (Display DNS Cache Contents)ipconfig /displaydns
IP Configuration (Delete DNS Cache Contents)ipconfig /flushdns
IP Configuration (Release All Connections)ipconfig /release
IP Configuration (Renew All Connections)ipconfig /renew

You will have to clean your system of the malware, if your DNS IP is within one of those above......

Hello, this is otter's son. My name is Dale and I work with networks a lot in my community with LAN Parties. I haven't heard anything about this, and neither have my friends. There is something that's going to happen in June that might be stirring this kind of thing.

DNS (for those who aren't computer savvy) stands for Dynamic Name Server. Automatically, I know that a computer doesn't house a DNS. (I work with websites as well) The DNS that the Command Prompt uses is the "server" inside your router/modem. That is the Local DNS. Now, when I hear of a virus (or spy/malware/bug) that's going to "shut the internet off" - I have a really strong inkling to call bs. Because it's really simple to flush the virus whether it's via a scan with your anti-virus or a format to the HDD and a simple reinstall of Windows (or Mac/Linux).

The thing that's going down in June is a new Internet standard is finally (been waiting a couple years for this) going live. The current Internet standard (known as IPv4) is being upgraded to IPv6. A part of me is thinking that this virus that's going to "shut the internet off" is a scare tactic for people to go out and buy some new hardware - money that doesn't necessarily have to be spent if you've purchased a router/modem in the last year or so.

I'm not going to completely discredit the article, but the sites that I visit (gaming websites, and this type of thing would've been covered) is nowhere to be seen on these sites. The sites, just in case you're curious and would like to check them are http://reddit.com/r/gaming, http://shacknews.com.

If they are on an internal network then all they will see is the 192.168.xxx.xxx address. They will have to access their router and see the "true" IP to the internet. Most routers ID/PW are defaulted unless it has been changed.
