It's trucking. Put your man pants on. If the shipper is still shipping then it's safe. This storm barely became a hurricane. If you're gonna let a little wind and rain stop you, get out of trucking. Seriously.
Hurricane Issac- is Conway TL putting freight over Driver Safety?

I've driven through many storms, both normal freight and FEMA. Drove through Isaac the other night in fact with some forklifts for an emergency distribution site. Any company that is dispatching their drivers into SE LA today are morons. The winds are still fierce, flooding will be intense, and no one will be be at the shipper as they are hunkered down. I would speak to my dispatchers boss, or simply refuse to go. This is common sense for an area that is under sea level, apparently some here don't have it. Not to mention the fact that most likely the roads are closed currently to southbound traffic.
When I did Katrina, we dodged cattle, huge light poles, Sea Doos, etc on I10 all the way over to Stennis Space Center with a FHP escort, as soon as we were allowed in. I weathered Wilma on the tarmac at NAS Jax, and prestaged LOADED trailers were flipped over at the FEMA site in Homestead (clusterf### on FEMA's part). I drove through a weak TS in Mobile AL, and last year I drove through Irene in NC. So I ain't skeered, but I am smart. I wouldn't go anywhere near NOLA without phone confirmation from the shipper that they'll be there and the roads are clear.Guitar Man, CondoCruiser, NavigatorWife and 3 others Thank this. -

Part of being a trucker is feeding America. When the going gets tough the tough get going. My last company use to run hurricane relief. If I was still trucking I would be probably be loading right now for a run down there. By tonight it'll be nothing but heavy rain. You do what you can and you always have the option of shutting down if things are too bad, just like a snow storm. The good thing about running relief is you throw the logbook in the sleeper.
aiwiron and joseph1135 Thank this. -
123456 and fortycalglock Thank this.

Well yeah if your running relief ...they just want a regular load picked up ...and tonight's a big difference than 9am ct ...it's still 80 mph winds and tons of rain
-
if the ports didnt close down here in South FL then there would have been trucks working all day. It was nothing but a water storm.
-
South fl isn't gettin hit like New Orleans though ur talkin bad winds and rain. I wouldn't be going with 80 mph winds.
-
South Fl got jack #2 .....and they closed everything ...and I know Safety won't tell u to run thru a hurricane but his FM is saying oh its ok...don't know yet if he went ...
