So after losing my job 19 months ago (first time on unemployment since started working in 1977) and not having any luck in finding a job (believe me I have tried). I received two calls in 2 week asking if I had my CDL. I had to answer 'no'. This was disturbing. I went to the DMV and picked up the books and passed Class A, Tanker, DBL TPL. Now I needed to get some time in a truck so I can take the driving test. Well I had no luck. While surfing the web I stumbled across a web site with 1,000 Trucking Jobs. As I looked at these jobs I found that the min. was 1 year OTR. So I started investigating how to get that first year. I found Roehl. Spent a month asking questions and checking with friends that had done OTR.
So I fill out an app for school and driving on 8/13. Now I wait....
I am looking run hard to earn well. 19 months of unemployment had just kept our heads above water. We live in Michigan's UP so local jobs are very hard to come by with 29% unemployment.
Please chime in if you have any suggestions or input. I really enjoyed reading the section on cooking in the truck. It was very helpful.
hurry up an wait
