I recently got hurt working on a dedicated route, going to get it checked out tomorrow. It's not very serious but I pulled a ligament or something to that affect. Very painful goes from my waist to my foot. My question is they had me take all my stuff off my truck and took the keys. Told me they don't know how long I will be out and the company does not like trucks sitting. Should I be concerned I'm going to get fired? I have not been in the job very long. Thanks!

Fired?
Maybe but I doubt it.
I would start looking at collecting WC and unemployment while you are off and get a lawyer lined up just in case. Because you don't say who you work for, it is hard to guess at their actions. Any good company may say "get well, see you soon". Some others will boot you ASAP.
OH and please keep in mind that it is a dedicated route, so it has to be covered no matter what. The company has that obligation to the customer so they would take you out of the truck to get someone else to cover it.KeepOnTurnin101 Thanks this. -
Thanks, there sending me to a doctor tomorrow. Just was surprised I had to get out of the truck. The company is a Mega.

Op wont get unemloyment... its worksmens comp. Company will issue you another truck once doc releases you. Expect to get another d.o.t. physical once doc releases you to work.

Unless there could be other reasons, you should be fine. I had something similiar when i wound up in the hospital with pneumonia on my 4th day working here. I wasn't allowed back to work for 3 weeks. I gave up my keys too after I got out of the hospital and had zero issue getting a new truck when i came back. Dedicated has only so many trucks. Its not like van truckload where there are dozens if not more tractors sitting around at an OC waiting for the next batch of recruits. They probably got a new driver and had to fill yours especially not knowing how long you'd be out for. And just in case you don't come back, then they don't have to deal with your belongings and all that.

Don't sweat it. It's not firing you, it's a $3500 a month truck payment plus licenses, taxes etc. It costs that company probably $5k a month to own that truck. Having it down more than a week is gonna hurt.
With the kind if injury you describe, you'll likely be weeks off work. I'd reassign that truck too. You're not getting fired.KeepOnTurnin101 Thanks this. -
OC? I'm going to say Schneider.
Nah, you won't get fired. Worst that'll happen is they'll have you working Driver Services if you're released to light duty. They'll get you in another truck once you're good to go.KeepOnTurnin101 Thanks this. -
