Hey all, New lady here...I have some questions...Most especially from CT guys/gals. My husband has been going to a tractor trailer training school here in Connecticut and today was his test. He says he didn't pass bc he missed one manuever, 1 manuever fail? If anyone has been to the big Tractor Trailer Training school in Connecticut or know about testing he said the actual test is done by an Inspector on the school's site is this true? Wouldn't there be a written test today too? I was there when he got his initial permit and prior he was already Class B & passed his initial permit written 100%. I am just wondering also is there a wait time for him to retake and again are the above true?

I am getting worried that we are going to run out of the savings I have left waiting for him to pass and get a job. I had been wanting to start searching for him to get out there with a company and have a job ready or finish with a company. He has just been going to school full time and doing jobs here and there since he started last spring. I'm worried we will have no cash and no job prospects....he is always at school practicing and stuff....

Initially he was telling me when he was going around to local companies they were interested in him bc he was already Class B and come back as soon as he graduated. He was going to do day runs, then he was talking that after a year he wanted to OTR for a week and come home. Do those job usually require more OTR time than day runs..

Guys I am confused and quite honestly HONESTY would be appreciated, I hate to doubt him, but we just got back together after a summer of separation. I am worried about being deceived, nothing would relieve me more than knowing he is telling me the truth....THANKSSSSSSSSS everyone!!! :)))):biggrin_25523:

I'm not sure about CT but I've heard it's similar to MA. There's a number of maneuvers and a pretrip and an airbrake practical. You have to nail all of those, then you get to do a road test. If you pass all of it but one of the maneuvers, they mark the others as passed and you have to come back another day to re-try that part, then if you pass that, off you go on the road, you pass that, you get your license. I'm sure your husband could explain it too. In my class of 12 people at TT school, only one person passed everything on the first try, and he was the youngest person in the class. Most people screwed up alley dock or the airbrake test. Most of the class passed on the 2nd try.And this probably shouldn't be in the owner/op forum.

You can fail missing one maneuver. Depends which one. I failed the first time: did an alley dock first shot, pulled forward to make it 'perfect' , dmv inspector said is that final or whatever I said yes didn't even look. He broke out the tape measure said I wasn't within 16" of the "dock" line on the blacktop. Think it was 30 days Til I could retest.

i had a class b for years before I upgraded. I didn't quit my class b job Til I had another job lined up.....
why doesn't he have a job all week now? Dare I ask?

Do they( the school/dmv) require more time training before testing? I went for an eval before I'd paid for the course: they said a 10 hr refresher and I'd be good to go. With 2 try's at a test I believe..

local trailer trucking jobs can be found: not as easily as otr jobs. But they are out there. I got a class a job with no class a experience local home every afternoon (7-330 every day) knocking on doors Til I got one. WAs there 3 years Til I bought a truck.

the only written portion is when you go to the dmv for the permit. Road test is knowledge only.

you are well within reason to have doubts. Money strain makes doubts easy to come by. And weak excuses (I'm there training all the time and still managed to fail) will push those doubts.

Is is what hes saying true: could be.

garbage companies hire class b drivers all the time. I'm more doubtful of the story because of the lack of current employment and that it sounds like YOU are the one funding his endeavor while he's jobless.

maybe I'm jaded-if you wonder if it's a problem, it probably is a problem. Go with your gut.

He has been most worried about parallel parking...he drove charter buses for years, but he said there is no comparison....he says one day he nails it all perfect, then one thing off....Today he got all, but one...jeesh....

Prime Inc. hires in CT and pays $700.00 a week during training.
    Don't need a CDL, just a permit.
If you apply, make sure paperwork is perfect, such as no photo copy of Social Security card & birth certificate; must be original.

Knight Transportation has a similar program.
