FYI to all: In some states going 15 or more MPH over the limit can be also considered as careless driving (a step below reckless). Depending on the way that states laws are written, the potential also exists that an officer can issue the careless on top of the speeding citation in some states at the discretion of the officer.

If I were you do not change your license untill this is over with the tickets.
To be safe wait 60 days after the tickets are taken care of.
In most cases the tickets are not put on your driving record untill after the conviction.

    That should read:
"In all cases the tickets are not put on your driving record untill after the conviction."
A ticket is not a conviction, it is only an allegation.

There are some tickets I have seen that do not appear on you license, even if speeding, or something of the like.

This is when a city cop issues the ticket. Many times the city is issuing tickest on the interstate, US, and state roads, for the main purpose of generating revenue. Usually in these cases the money is sent directly to the city hall or JP in that city/town.

Not all cities and towns operate this way, but many do, or at least used to, and a ticket issued by them and paid promptly will not be reported.

I have had this happen several times in the past in different states, with citations consisting of speeding, log book violations, and other minor stuff.

This could be the reason some of your man's tickets have not shown up on his record.

Now a ticket from a state trooper that a conviction is obtained on would have to get lost in the system to not be reported.

I used to have a lead foot many, many, years ago. But things were different. The national speed limit was 55 MPH, and almost no one reported tickets to your home state unless you failed to pay them, and even then only occasionally.

Today you have to be really careful. The computer age is great, but it also will tell on you for everything you do.

Probably 99% of us old hands would have lost our license several times if todays information sharing rules were the standard back then.

You are absolutely correct Re. going on the MVR because prior to a conviction, all there is is an accusation. Innocent until proven guilty & all that stuff.

    WhAT?!
A speeding citation on the Grapevine isn't in the interest of safety? :biggrin_2552:

How many speeding citation fines do you reckon it takes to pay for
ONE Big truck big crash? :Transportation cost

The original poster has already admitted there was guilt.
How is that a "cash cow"? :smt102

Things may not be the same as in Virginia, and I only got 1 ticket but I went to court last week in another part of the state, plead guilty to 80/65,got ticket dismissed if I complete driver improvement clinic(on computer) and only had to pay $60 court costs. The driver tailgating me when we got stopped hired a lawyer to handle his ticket.Results-found guilty of 79/65,driver improvement,$200+ in fines/court costs and a 4-point ticket on his record.Must of been a fluke but I am glad I went to court and didn`t hire a lawyer.Actually shocked that mine was dismissed. And it wasn`t the only one.If you hire a lawyer-go to court with him.

i didnt bother reading all posts, sorry for your situation....though he asked for it (dont worry I've asked for some of my problems to)....anyway, do they have any kind of diversion program? When I was a kid I got a ticket for 80 in a 55...the cop said he was doing 90 and I was leaving him (it was night time)....he cut me slack and dropped it to 80, then I called about a deversion program- they said the limit was 79mph but since I was paced they'd let me do it. Paid twice the cost of the ticket, stayed out of trouble for a bit, no record, no insurance problems.
-I find it unllikely that they'll do this in your case but it may be worth a phone call to ask, I wouldn't make any further comments other then asking if diversion is possible at least on 1 of the citations......its a snowballs chance, but never hurts to ask. Allot of times they just want money, and places that divert will rape you pocket book without messing up your license. They get what they want....you sort of get what you want.
A recent example I discovered is that it's a 'moving violaton' to PARK on the ramp (shut down real late one night, hit a shoulder with some other trucks, lights on, all the way off ramp, was there an hour....bad idea- two cops going ramp to ramp waking/citing trucks bout an hour before sunup) in Indiana. They don't tell you it's considerd moving violation....a guy on the cb saved my ###, told me everything. I called, paid extra, they diverted......
