My point was their poor rating with OOS vehicles will get you inspected more . E-logs don't impress DOT when a carrier has a high Basic score on vehicles .

It helps to run e-logs but just on the paper end... You are 100% on the equipment... at greatwide.. our score is "improving" but we still get popped at the super coop at the 103 on I 45 just about everyday (not me personally but greatwide trucks)... One driver that runs Houston 4 nights a week got popped 4 times in 5 days... Everytime he got a clean bill but still had to go over the creeper.

Great info tho,, Unsafe driving breakdown consist of 25 counts seatbelt violation and 32 counts speeding. Touch on HOS tab and log book violations are a lot of form and manor which is as u know just like forgetting to sign name or something. It gives each tickets breakdown and a lot of them are multiple offences. Not a lot of drivers doing a little bad; A few drivers doing a lot bad. Fire the few!!!!

As minor as some of that stuff sounds.. it still gets you pulled around the scales. I know you know this as you have 21 years exp... You also know that the company won't fire the few because they are the ones doing what the company wants them to do.. Run on the fringes.. When they have used them up they will fire them.

Why go to school? Your married to the best trainer you can get. I got my cdl-a last April and I didn’t go to school. I took the written test and used a truck to take pretrip, skills and driving. I’m thinking if you team with him in his truck and keep logs that would show you have the experience needed. I’m sure someone would know better.

wow! I'm not sure why but I really thought I might only get one of two suggestions. this is much more info than I ever expected! Thank you very much (btw I see posts that say someone thanked someone else how do I do that?)

    back to the point:

my husband mentioned looking into Schneider for our situation... any thoughts?

as far as the comment about ' forget going to school' yes I agree that I could learn from my husband however I think it would be beneficial to my marriage to go to school first :)

Schools are for people that know nothing about trucking and thats not your case. So why use a school to teach you many of the things you may already know. Taking a DMV test has nothing to do with log books, trip planning and dealing with shippers and receivers. If you plan on driving together it's good to try it now. All you need is a med card and you can drive his truck as long as he is in it. I know in NH you can. However you will do whats best for you.
    Good Luck

ps, You should be able to get a free copy of your states Commercial Drivers Manual. That has almost all the same info a school will teach you. It's a big help.

oh ok morr2fab I see what you are saying now. you make a very good point. question/ clarification: are you saying that instead of paying a school he would teach me on his off/ home time or when I go out with him and then when I'd had enough rd time I go take the rd test to get my official cdl license? ( of course I understand this is after taking the writtenteststop begin with)

I know in my state you only need a med card to drive CDL-A class truck as long as the sponser (your husband) has the proper licence for the vehicle. You only need to take a written test to get your Green card for your DMV pretrip, skills and driving test. Everything you would need to know to take the written test should be in the Commercial Drivers Manual. Well, it not a "written" test, its a computer a,b,c,d, type test.
You have a truck, get the manual, why pay the school?. Thats how I did it.
And all time spent behind the wheel can be counted as experience.
It would be a good idea to call your DMV to find out where you can drive. I just drove around towns in my area. A school will only let you drive in the same way, around town.

    Hope this helps.

I spoke to my husband about him teaching me instead of going to school and his response was very positive and slightly ' why didn't I think of that' :) thank you for that money saving tip!
