This is a general update to let people know where I am at in the process. I could not figure out how to edit my original post for the life of me, so I will just put it here.

First - thank you to all of you who came here with advice that was in the spirit of attempting to help me achieve my goal. Some of you missed my question altogether and thought I was asking you to convince me to give up. That is okay too... reading is hard.

I just got enrolled in a school that is local and that should take about 5 weeks. I have spoken with multiple companies so far and I believe I have one in mind that runs a dedicated route. My current plan is to run with them for a while to get used to things - the truck and how the industry works - and then I intend to go Owner / Operator once I have found a decent contract and dispatcher. That last part is still in the research phase, but my wife and I know it is possible. With us choosing our own routes, it should be possible to pick our days off... and thus be able to practice what we wish.

My wife is going to chill for the first 5 months and perhaps get her cdl near the end of my "Feeling it out" phase, so I can be the one who trains her and also we can work together for the majority of the process. I know that we will each need to train with whomever when the time comes, but the less time apart the better.

I am still looking for people who know what they are talking about when it comes to this, so please and thank you for all information. Even the jaded comments telling me it is not possible shows me how tough it can be... but I will make it happen... and I will keep you guys updated.

Congrats on the first step.

Try finding a company that’ll let you train your wife. I don’t know how long now but at Werner you can become a “Certified trainer” after 6 months.
