Yeah I agree. Every company I know pushes their drivers. I just think he is trying to figure out a way to include his wife in this venture. 15 years ago my wife was going to run teams with me. I find out a year or 2 ago she was worried about backing, well duh I could have done the backing or taught her how! :laughing9: We had a child a couple of years later, so it would have been a short venture. Not cracking on the ladies, but some tend to count on their hubbies to do the city part. I would not have had a problem with that with my wife.

notarps4me - You pretty much nailed it. I am trying to figure a way to include my wife, and find out if there is a balance between what I know we would be able to do (at a minimum) and what most company's (minimum) requirements are.

If it works out to where we can do this together, I think we would both enjoy it very much. If not, then I will have to look at deciding between otr vs local, solo vs team with someone else, or else keep job searching in my current profession and still get my CDL as more or less a safety net.

That is why I posted this, to find out if there are others out there in similar situations, and to also find out how well it works for them. Any input is welcome, even the "tough love" comments.

A monkey has to be pretty wise and fast on his feet to survive as long as I have!:smt003 I don't think anyone here means you any harm. Sometimes drivers come off a little rough around the edges. It may be the enviroment we are always in.:p We are all here to help one another. Thanks for being a good sport. To be a driver now a days you need some thick skin. I think you will do fine.

and we are trying to relate to you "some" of the requirements.....

this "safety net" thing isn't going to work as well as you are thinking it will..........why.......??
because after you finally get your CDL, if you don't start working real soon, then you wasted your money.....how....??
because then, ANY company you apply to will want to know why you haven't driven in such a LONG time, and they will either demand that you take a refresher course, or seek employment else where........that's the way IT IS...........

well if there are any "others' out here/there", they certainly haven't responded as of yet, and why.............??
because they are OUT THERE doing the job..............
it's tough, i'm sure, but the amount of "monies" you are both about to spend is outragous to say the least for a few hours of training, and driving around the block (so to speak) just to get hold of a CDL..........then not to take full advantage of that license..............and STILL HAVE those student loans to pay off....................

pro1driver - I appreciate your concern about my situation.

This is a great site & I have picked up alot of information in a short time. This is what I have found out about trucking company requirements as related to being an employee...

    1. Keep the truck rolling.
    2. Dont crash.
    3. Dont do stupid stuff. This covers alot of areas.
    4. Keep the truck rolling.

If I am missing anything in my list, feel free to add to it.
