ok my husband and I are about to change career paths late in life. So we are trying to decide which way is better. Should we both get our CDL's or should he just get the CDL'S and I join him on the road. Kind of as his assistant/cook/bookkeeper.....etc. I have read both pros and cons as far as if both drive you never see each other or some people say they make it work. But others say they just enjoy having the support system in place. Also is there a huge difference in pay if we chose for only one of us to get our license. Thanks in advance for the feedback.

Well on the one hand, you'd be only a passenger feeding off of his paycheck

On the other, you'd be making money as well, and he can feed off of you..lol
to be a team driver operation, ALL that money goes to one house, which means (say for instance) he was to earn $50,000 per year. with you driving, you too earn that same amount.

have him go for his CDL first, let him get on the road, then as he is doing that, you go to CDL school, and at a later time, team up.

Will you need both incomes or can you both live off his check? If you don't need both incomes my advice is to go ride with him, at least at first. Use the downtime to see what there is to see all over the country. You can always decide later that you want to learn how to drive.

You're assuming that you will love the lifestyle, and you may. However you may not, so just ride along with Hubby at first. If you both "just love it", then get your CDL and run that truck 24/7 and bang out some decent $$$ ! good luck

I once ran into a divorced couple who still drove team. She owned the truck. Said finding a good driver was harder than finding a good husband.

So far as I know the Husband usually does the backing and driving in metropolitan areas and the wife does the driving on the open road in the daylight. Teams tend to make more than twice what a single driver would make unless you are under contract from using a company school to get your CDL.

Assistant all the way as long as you can live off of one check. I would love to have an assistant.
