I would love to have one of these in the oilfield. Most runs are 200-300 miles per day which would be a decent amount when the max miles on these rigs are 600.
The cost savings would be huge for a guy like me. -
homeskillet and petefan4000 Thank this.

They said these things would already be on the road a couple yrs ago.

Well being that this is a hypothetical question let me give you some IFs
If California started to tax fuel and the price was up to $15-$17 a gallon.
If California came out with a weird requirement that trucks had to buy carbon offsets to run increasing my cost $2.00 per mile.
If California had some big tax credits off set state taxes.
If I could use free Charging Stations.
yep, guess would be all in.homeskillet Thanks this. -

Did you even watch Tesla's reveal for the Semi? The whole gig felt like Elon was pitching the Semi to people who already own a Tesla, rather than trucking companies or truckers. And if Tesla are unveiling a new semi truck (especially one just making their first baby steps into the trucking industry), you'd think Elon would invite truckers and people from logistics companies, you know, people who actually know at least a thing or two about trucking. It was almost impossible to tell if there was even a single such person in the crowd. I recently re-watched the reveal from start to end and I immediately knew that Elon had zero clue what he's talking about as soon as he said that "this beats rail". Nope, the Tesla Semi, as it stands right now, is vapourware.
While some industries would make sense for full electrification, like railways (via converting Diesel-electric locomotives to full electric with overhead pantograph systems and something like 100 kV AC supplies), carbon-neutral Diesel should be the logical choice for on-highway trucks, along with hybrid powertrains. Synthetic Diesel is much cleaner than petrodiesel, which means much less pollution. Loosen emissions regulations outside crowded urban environments and we can hopefully start to "Make Trucking Great Again".Last edited: Nov 18, 2021

If you ordered the Tesla semi, you would drive it. They will have to build the changing stations. I think Tesla has a plan for that and it would not take much to add them to truck stops if needed.
