    Hey all,
I'm seeking some information. I just moved from Oregon to Arizona. I had some possible employers who liked my resume and wanted to meet me but once I got down here they now have backed out saying to check back in a few months. So now im stuck down here without a job. I have had to resort to OTR which im not to happy about but im ready to do in order to pay the bills. I did a short lil stint with Gordon Trucking back in late 2007. I also started out OTR with Dick Simon for about 2 years back in 2000 so im no stranger to OTR. It's just been a while. I almost finished training with Gordon but had to quit due to personal reasons. Fast forward to now, I have been prehired with Werner and I'm now awaiting a regional position. I'm completely ready for this. It's not what I really want to do but I realize that I got to do something so my family can survive. I was very surprised to learn that Werner would hire me with as little as a month experience dating back to Aug 2007. I'm told there policy is no less then 30 days within the last 2 years. What are the chances that as soon as im done with orientation that I'll be released on my own? Or should I expect to have to go out with a trainer? Getting these questions answered are a pain in the #####. I have a hard time getting people at Werner to even answer there phones. Then when I get through I'm stuck on hold for 10 minutes just to be told to leave a voicemail. And even those have yet to be answered. If someone can shine some light on this that would be awesome. I'm just a lil nervous about being thrown on the road by myself after so long. I know I can do it, just a lil nervous.

    Thanks
    David

I research Werner quite exstensively when I was looking for work and I d have to say RUN! But if thats where you have to go you will be w/ a trainer for so many miles before you go on your own unless you ve been driving recent. Also be prepared , it s 22 cents a mile to start and it doesn t get much better after that. I ve never worked for them but I know drivers that have and like I said I did some research. Best of luck.

JeepKid, did you try Swift? They are in your neighborhood. They are also one of the big guys that do not always get great press here. But, like you said, you gotta do something.

A better option would be Swift and DSW (large owner operator that hires recent swift grads and runs for swift ... they're out of tucson). Personally ... I would call Gordon and get on my knees asking them to hire me back.

    Thanks MM71,
I called Gordon and was told that I'd have to attend atleast 150hrs of refresher training at a company approved trucking school so thats out. Im just now paying off my school from when I worked for them in 2007. I'm going to check out the o/o in Tucson. Would you happan to have anymore info on him? thanks again

I have no info. DSW is there, but as any company that will let you on without some form of retraining ... they are going to suck, you'll just have to bide your time till your experience level is back acceptable to better carriers.

Check Craigslist and careerbuilder. There are some local jobs that pop up all the time you may get lucky and get a good job. I've been trying to get on with IWX MF up here in kingman for the past 6 months, I havent pestered the HR lady in a couple weeks. I have 7yrs expereince. I've got a buddy here in town that went thru school, signed on with arrow ... got boned for a year, quit ... called IWX wednesday, and will be starting monday. Its all about timing. Good luck to you
