One can apply to the FMCSA pay the $300 NON-REFUNDABLE fee and get 'authority' with a DOT number but it will be 'unauthorized' until insurance is filled with the FMCSA. For where to buy insurance follow thread below

Hey, Do you know how they categorize that class of insurance? I went on their site and couldn't find it under "commercial truck insurance". Or did you look for an agent and let them do the work for you? Thanks.

That's about half what they use to charge new authorities, then... It use to be over 4k for a new authority with dry van and the minimum coverage...OldeSkool Thanks this.
