You can do better than either of those. Both are OK companies though, but you can make lots more money at other companies.
Where is your location; so we know the hiring area you live in.
Get all the endorsements before you graduate.

Does flatbed interest you?Last edited: Dec 18, 2023

There's a trucker myth out there, that's false and I have the facts to back it up, that it's myth.
You'll hear that you should stay with your first company for 1 year or be considered a job hopper. That's not true at all. Dozens of companies will hire you with less than12 mos. experience and won't think you're a job hopper. Proof is, many companies actually run ads for drivers with 1 mos exp. or 3 mos. exp. or 6 mos. exp., etc. This gives you the opportunity to change jobs if you want, for better pay & benefits or more desirable freight lanes.nextgentrucker Thanks this. -
Covenant and Werner may be sponsers, but it doesn't mean that that's your only choice. FYI
Wargames, Crude Truckin', Puppage and 3 others Thank this. -

Hey...QuietGuy:
You don't say where you are (nearest city, state)...or what CDL school you are in...but of those 2 choices -- Werner is definitely the better of the two.
Werner does dry van, reefer...& also flatbed freight -- so with Werner....you would also have more freight choices -- than Cov.
If freight gets slow with your first gig at Werner, instead of quitting -- you could:
- ask for another account
- ask for another type of freight
- go dedicated -- instead of just OTR (for example: Home Depot).
With a one-trick pony -- if you don't like your gig -- your only real option is to quit, & go somewhere else.
Instead -- be known as a team player -- go with a carrier that gives you numerous accounts/freight type choices.
Since you're a beginner -- look for lots of different opportunities under one name.
