We got word today that Flagstaff will be closing I-40 at 3am Wednesday morning, Feb 21,2023, the closure may happen earlier, depending on the storm severity; its supposed to be a whopper come thru, 70mph gusts.
<rant>
Phoenix paper pushers opened it up last week, after Flag closing it, to then have multiple wrecks 60-90 miles in both directions - including a fatality in Flag.
That death, and all the chaos & carnage and the millions of dollars of destroyed products & vehicles, as well as all of us tow-men putting our butts out there, is because a higher-up ADOT man in Phoenix saw only numbers on paper, and consciously opted to blow off the voices of this regions director as well as this regions district ADOT lead-men telling Phoenix exactly what will happen ...... and it did.

As of 3pm today, I-40 Westbound out of Holbrook is also closed.
It is more than likely due to Winslow being literally full with truckers & travelers, physically nowhere to be stationary.Dave_in_AZ, D.Tibbitt and JonJon78 Thank this. -
Update, 1730 mtn
I-40 Westbound from Holbrook Az, MP 289, will remained closed the rest of the night; it unknown when it will reopen.
The closure extends all the way to MP72, just west of Ash Fork.
Eastbound from that MP72 is also closed all the way to Winslow, MP252.
Northern Arizona is closed!D.Tibbitt Thanks this. -
Is I-40 W open now from Gallup to Flagstaff 89?
511 shows Eastbound closed and Google showing W open.D.Tibbitt Thanks this. -
AZ511, since DPS closed Flag dispatch, having Phoenix take that over, the area up here is basically neglected.
I have cleared a wreck on 40 in the morning, but the posting of it on the map says it is still active.
The cameras are just as bad, for example, the SR87 cams on the south side of town, on is a still shot from September of 2022, and the other direction is a still shot of I-17 in Cordes Jct from 2021 !!
So this can be an advisory, AZ511 is not to be taken as fact of the moment.Rattlayitdown, Tall Mike, D.Tibbitt and 1 other person Thank this. -

Me personally i probably woulda just dropped i25 south out of albaquerque to i10 west and picked up the i-8 to az85 bypass back up to i10. Way more miles but you avoid phoenix entirely. It sucks like hell when they close 40. ####s everything up
