To those who haven't been through I recommend it just to see it. It's insane. Total 50/50 on whether you'll lose a little time but there have always been slowdowns through there anyway. It's crazy to see the damage that storm created.

Depending on the time of day that's not much better of a plan. I've gotten in some big backups coming from the north into Asheville lately, especially in the morning and then every afternoon there's a big slowdown for some reason headed north out of Asheville around Woodfin/Weaverville.

Keep in mind that it's Mother's day as well. So, probably double the traffic

Forgot about that. That means even more people on the road.

They are paving and finishing a bridge around Weaverville southbound on I-26. I got held up there yesterday about 4 pm for 10-15 minutes.

FYI, it's not much better of an alternative.

The Gorge wasn't too bad. Stop and go in only a few spots otherwise rolling slow. The big backup was at the 40/81 split. I think 81 loses a lane right there. That took longer to get through than the Gorge.

I don't know how much rain they got, but there's probably a good 15 mile stretch of I-40 that was washed away. You can see how high the water got in a few places. It must have been an incredible amount of water moving through there.

They got rocked. Rain, mud/land slides, winds. Unlike my sandbar, they don't see a lot of hurricanes out that way.

Glad you got through without to much of a hassle!

Lot of good folks out that way got hit hard.

Worst flooding most of the Appalachians have seen since Hurricane Camille(1969).
