Better still would be a system that inhibits speeds greater than 5 mph while the bed is raised.
This isn't some localized issue as these types of crashes occur nationwide and even overseas.The_vett, 86scotty, Grouch and 1 other person Thank this. -
Yeah, we had alarms on Waste Management roll-off & frontload trucks back in the 90's. Had a spring loaded switch on the side of the frame. When the bed was lowered down, it depressed the spring loaded switch. If the bed was raised more than about an 1" or so, the spring would be released & the switch would activate & the alarm in the cab would sound.
That's about as simple as a setup can be. So it couldn't have cost more than a few dollars for that kinda alarm system.OLDSKOOLERnWV, The_vett, Grouch and 1 other person Thank this. -

Lucky it was empty.

I just don't get it. I can feel it and hear it when there's a tiny change in anything on my truck or trailer. I just can't see a dump trailer/dump truck raising up without knowing it. And if I was around a truck on the highway with this happening I'd get in front of him and slow him down one way or the other, and I mean quick.

Totally agree with your post, but…. It’s a crying shame a micro switch has to be put on a dump bed because the driver is lazy, or just plain dumb and needs a job shoveling asphalt instead of driving a truck….Flat Earth Trucker and Grumppy Thank this.
