I just went out and back over this. I’m going to avoid it. At least for this year
Too much of the pavement is in poor shape. Have to drive slower. On the way out. They had emergency repairs in Vail. Don’t know how much time I wasted in a traffic jam at least ten miles long.
At places, Co. DOT has snow piled up close to the road. So the snow keeps melting with water running across the freeway. Then at night. Clear ice. No thanks. Disappointed in Co DOT.
On my way back. I’m sure my truck was sliding inside the big tunnel. Slippery. Slowed to 35. All the 45mph on downhills. I slow anyways. My engine brake works those downhills great. But it’s all still slow. With traffic and all. I really think 40 is better at least this year. 70 is just too much of a pain.
Maps claim 40 is three hours longer. I don’t think so for the near future.
Even 80 through Wyoming is a good option. Wyoming DOT is doing a good job these days.
Last night I was in Grand Junction. Looking at the map. They had a wreck. One hour and twenty minute delay. Geesh this freeway is a pain. I came back to Denver today.
