The past two days have seen heavy snow, I-70 closed on Vail Pass, and avalanche warnings for virtually all of the Rocky Mountains. It's supposed to stop snowing today and "warm" up to mid-20s in Vail tomorrow. Based on past experience, will CDOT be able to get I-70 clear and chain law lifted tomorrow? It's supposed to start snowing again Wednesday so there's only a short window to roll.

Depends on when the wind quits blowing. And a warm up makes the chain laws more likely if there's still snowpack. Snowpack at 10° is decent traction, closer to 32° it's much slicker. I've got a load that has to go over Loveland I've been sitting on since Wednesday, it's been closed for all but a few hours.

I was hoping they could plow and salt the highway to where you don't need chains. It's supposed to snow Wednesday and Thursday then Vail is forecast to be 39° on Friday. I don't want to have to sit here another three days.

It's a mess up there right now, but the snow is stopping. I'd suggest getting up early and watching CoTrip app, that will likely be best chance unless the sun comes out. If that happens mid-to-late afternoon should be Barefoot.

Does anyone know if chains are still required over Eisenhower right now? CoTrip hasn't updated since Saturday 2140 and most of the cameras are showing clear roads. Ridiculous.

I just saw this, if you haven't already left looks like the chain laws are down right now. But the wind is supposed to be howling up there today so pay attention

They took it down about 1400. The bumper to bumper traffic starts in Dillon. No wind at all down here. See what it's like up higher.
