Well, the old bridge is no more.

Missouri has four major interstates. 70, 55, 35, and 49. I run all of them regularly, the other three have probably half the traffic that 70 does on a consistent basis. At least in my opinion.

Yep I agree. I-44 isn’t TERRIBLE but that stretch from about Eureka to St. Louis is an absolute raceway.

    YardMule89 and bzinger Thank this.

How could I forget about 44! They could have used a little more dynamite when they built that road. Those rolling hills are a drag loaded.

Nothing is built to be visually impressive anymore. Not buildings, not cars, not trucks, not bridges. Though being impressive may not have been the goal with the old ironwork bridges so much as just being workable.

I guess that reporter standing next to the camera was expecting shrapnel, wearing a Vietnam era flack jacket and helmet.

3 lanes to Warrenton from STL, 3 lanes PAST Oak Grove and 3 lanes through Columbia is all that's really needed IMO. I think expanding some of the secondary routes, like US 50 and US 63 to four lane highways all the way through would be more useful, but I guess that's a little trickier when dealing with people's property.

70 might be annoying, but its almost guaranteed smooth trip besides the metro areas. Might have to tuck in behind someone while traffic sorts themselves on occasion, but it's rare to have a true delay on 70.

Yep and I've run all them including 44. Been running OTR all 48 for 14 years.

Yeah, some the other Missouri interstates may be comparatively better, but, I still don't find 70 that bad.

    bzinger and kylefitzy Thank this.

The whole point of an overhead truss is to give more clearance for boats.

I suppose not that many ships sail through there anymore.

The customer gives the architect/designer a budget. I suspect the state of MO wasn't willing to pay for a soaring inspiration for future generations.
