just got home from up there.
they had both sides closed.
460 East to 81 south to 77 is the detour.
about 45-50 miles more.
I took 100 down from 460, now that is some serious curves and 1 NARROW!!!! short stretch.
but shorter. -
I took that rte. years ago when I hauled steel and needed to miss the scales on I77. Yea Ha... Was all I could say..

Incredible fire. Those tunnels and that area is always a scene of problems. I wonder if the driver had warning signs prior and was just trying to make it to the Tamarack.
I'd say the insurance company will get a nice bill. -
I hope he didn't have warning signs if so the only warning sign I would see would be don't go in the tunnel... Maybe that makes to much sense? LOL.... As for making it to Tamarack what is really there to help him out? Not to much that I can recall... Just a bad stretch of highway for anyone trying to get around this one... Any way you jog around this one your going to be walking or crawling to the finish line... Your STUCK...

Looks like they have 1 lane open North bound through the tunnel. Both lanes are open south bound. I have a run up to N Chicago leaving in the morning. Was planning to run I-40 to I-75 instead. Its about 100 miles farther. Think I will chance it now. Weekend traffic shouldn't be bad if I can roll through there before 9 AM.
