Yeah its been around for some time. Wasn't as bad when flip phones and slider phones were first new. Once the crackdowns on them hit years ago and media was all over it like syrup on hotcakes I put mine away while driving. Only time I touch it is to change music tracks.
I'm looking this as a new adventure. Not deterred one bit. When you've been in manufacturing going through the same routine day in day out you realize it was a good run while it lasted. I own a motorcycle so I know already how to drive defensively.
Its just sad to see these articles where common sense comes in handy. Society changed to where work time is 'me' time instead of taking pride in the task that requires focus and attention to detail. Seen it happen in the manufacturing jobs I've had. However that's another subject for a different day.
I can just foresee this technology coming into play to block cell/data service while the vehicle is moving. Im surprised the automotive industry hasn't implemented this already as a safety feature keeping people off their phone.
I have a lot of respect for those already on the road working their magic and mojo keeping things safe.

So. What, in everyone's in opinion is an acceptable amount of retribution for this driver? If that were your son, or daughter & grandchildren in that van, what would be an acceptable amount for you? -

I have been avoiding my phone lately. It's definitely a compulsion issue that I am managing. If I really have to, I pull over now.

Ol' Sparky,
How do you get coffee out of a keyboard? IDK what I'd do, Dave? You're right, you're absolutely right. On one hand, how many of us here can honestly say, you've never had a tense moment nodding off, drop something, look at the map, whatever, and look down, look up at everything is coming to a halt. I've always said, it's a miracle nothing ever happened to me. On the other hand, what would I do if it was my loved one? I think, eventually, they will have some sort of cell blocker while the vehicle is moving, like Sideways sez, and then of course, someone will sell the "anti-cell phone blocker" thing. I feel you can't have 0 risk. We are moving in a vehicle at a high rate of speed with humans in control. Recipe for disaster.
