Nice!
Went through there on Thursday was beautiful weather.Flat Earth Trucker and austinmike Thank this. -
I’ve been over that 3 times with chains.
The first time it was definitely needed. The second time there was zero snow or ice, just wet pavement. Yes, all of us were wondering WTF. The third time it was insane and should have been closed.
I’m having a hard time understanding how they set their closure/chaining standards.D.Tibbitt, Flat Earth Trucker, Blue jeans and 3 others Thank this. -
That was/will be again my daily drive. Used to stay open more but with all the newer lamer drivers up there they will close it more and more. They won't even run the plow trucks pretty much any more up top because of ####ty drivers you will only see them at the begining of the snow areas. They close the road then start plowing it. 5 years ago they barely ever closed it, I remember driving it with a foot of snow on the road and blowing hard but it was open. That road is an all weather road, but now it is more of sunny road only

The need for more frequent closures is to keep the traffic out of Truckee.
Truckee has more people full time than 10 - 15 years ago.
If they don’t hold traffic in Reno and 80 shuts down. Truckee gets grid locked. Nobody goes anywhere. It’s a nightmare.
There are no resources to support it.
Trucks plowed in on 80 that required wreckers to pull them out at their expense.
I was laughing at some poor guy as I was driving by the chain up area last storm. Facing traffic opening and closing his bare hands. I guess looking for gloves?
Be safe.Flat Earth Trucker Thanks this. -
But in all fairness, when everyone was waiting for a wreck to clear, the guys on the ground did a very good job of getting everyone moving one at a time so people didn’t crowd together in traveling groups. Trucks at full stop facing up on the incline that couldn’t get started without sliding while were push started by the plow tractor.Flat Earth Trucker Thanks this.
