Actually, that question needs to be turned around back at you.
If the Earth is flat, why do we need lighthouses? Because on a flat Earth, a light a foot off the ground is visible from just as far away as a light a hundred foot off the groundFlat Earth Trucker, HopperHauler and Wasted Thyme Thank this. -
Way off target here but you guys have lighthouses completely wrong. They are placed where they are to warn of imminent danger of obstruction. Later they became fixed reference points and were used for navigation.
I get what he's trying to say about why they're so tall and how far the light can go but the majority of navigational lighthouses are under 50 feet tall. Modern automated beacons are even smaller but usually have a radio transponder. -

I say we all just head back to Uranus. That is all.

Actually, lighthouses were first used for navigation, and then later as markers of reefs and Shoals. One of the most famous was Pharos at Alexandria, it was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. It was built 250 years before Christ, and stood for a thousand years. It was a little over a hundred meters tallBud A. Thanks this.

Maybe we should find Eddie and ask him.
