Oh yea I was just stating 40 winds as a base line. I have done the 50 and 60 mph winds and those are enough for me. Did the 60 on the ice once, road should have been closed..and it soon was. Wyoming is kind of like being on a boat on the ocean, have to keep an eye on the weather, it can change in a hearbeat. The clouds are allowed to run free out there..

One thing I noticed about route 80 in Wyoming is that in certain parts the elevation is far above sea level - the air is much thinner and if your turbo is not in good working order you may notice lower boost levels.

You only go over the divide a couple of times and the spine of the Rockies is going right thru that state, but Elk mountain is a planet of its own, seems like everywhere else can be clear and then you see that mountain and hold on. Your other choice for getting over to them western states is getting snow now so just be prepared.

The thing about some of these roads is some are scared of the conditions, if you are scared you will not think or react correctly. Park it in a safe place and wait until the conditions are right for you.

Just came over Elk Mountain on 80... It's getting snow to... Wyoming is white from Laramie to Rock Springs and getting whiter by the minute. Temp was 34 degrees... At noon. Was in the snow for a couple hours.

@striker The way it was putting it down when I came ove Elk it wouldnt surprise me. This morning it was raining in Denver, turned to snow in Wyomimg on US 287 cleared up for a few minutes through Laramie then commenced to dump wet snow all the way to Rock Springs... I stoped for about an hour in Little America amd by the time I left it was putting down the wet snow there as well. Salt Lake City is clear and sunny though... First sunshine ive seen since coming through St. Louis 2 days ago.

My personal belief is The Tunnel Monster.

Even if The Tunnel Monster doesn't wreck them near the tunnel, the psychological and emotional trauma of having driven by The Tunnel Monster's lair just F's them up.
