I believe you can take US 11 for a while.
Other than that there are no options.

I ran New England out of NC for about 25 years.
    Loved it.

81 started getting so bad that I started running the west coast so I wouldn't have to deal with those Morons messing everything up continuously.
I've got enough miles and seniority and stripes that I can say NO.. "send someone else".

I still miss all my New England customers.
    Great people.

If you notice, the bottom half of 81 in VA always has heavy traffic and problems.
Once up in the top third of the State things get better.

All in all VA is not trucker friendly- there are many dangerous intersections and in general the locals don't like truck drivers.

I disagree with your statement. In my opinion, Virginia is one of the most lenient state to run thru. Of all the DOT troopers in Virginia that I have dealt with, they rank #1 in my book and I have dealt with my share. The scales will give you a chance to get the weight right if you can. In the winter, Virginia is one of the best states to clean the highways during a storm. As long as you are not reckless, you can get by with running 5 or 6 mph over the limit.

Tell you one thing, I would heap rather deal with a Va. trooper than with a trooper from NY or CT or any of the northeastern states. Then lets talk about Ohio or Indiana or any of the states west of the Mississippi. No, I will take Virginia anytime. Sure the terrain is up and down, a little curvy in some sections, but what do you expect, you are in the mountains.

    SHHHHHHHHH!

    Don't TELL people!

(Actually all the growth in Charlottesville has made that corridor a lot worse.)

yep I picked up at that place like back in 2001 or 2002. Not much room between fence in front and dock door. I’ve seen loads on the board out of that place that say 48 ft trailers only

I used to take 15-29 out of Carlisle PA all the way through Greensboro NC then 74 to I95 but all the BS built up between 66 and Charlottesville just adding more and more lights just ruined the entire drive.

Now I'm forced to either take 270-495-95 or 81.

Me too. Anytime I had extra time on a load I'd hit the 2 lanes. Interstate hwys are very monotonous especially when you've driven it 3 billion times b4.
