I'd bet my money on following too close, distracted driving and not paying attention. That driver hit the truck pretty freaking hard.

A few days ago west bound I-94 I saw a truck with an orange trailer(schnieder?) the tractor was black but almost had a burnt black look to it and a car that was in a crash, I was driving out to ND when I saw that. Also saw some wal-mart trucks driving like idiots on ice going over 65mph. I pay much closer to truckers now and the worst drivers Ive noticed so far are wal-mart and fedex custom critical. Horrendous driving and I thought you had to be good and experienced to drive for those companies.

They probably didn't have to be traveling all that fast. 80,000 lbs can crush going fast or slow. Add ice and panic braking and I can imagine a chain-reaction crash. When I was a newbie, we watched training film with police dash video of a crash in which one semi stopped for stopped traffic ahead of him and another one jacknifed and barreled into him after taking too long to react. The resulting wreck involved the two trucks and three of the stopped cars ahead of them. Conditions were packed snow and icy pavement. The semi that was hit was stopped but he was pushed into the cars from the force of the truck hitting him. The sleeper of the jacknifed truck was crushed between the two trailers. The driver who reacted late was decelerating from 41 mph.

Hi GtO, you know, you'd think with all the crashes, drivers would be more careful. Every time I passed a wreck, I always thought, someone's family member isn't coming home from work, and I think it made me a better driver, sadly, at their expense. I think most people still think, it won't happen to me.tinytim, drvrtech77 and Giggles the Original Thank this.

yeah i agree. after all these years tho of seeing accidents. they still get to me. i feel so awful for family and friends left behind. to lose a loved one period, is painful, but to lose one in such a tragic violent way...just makes my heart ache. so sad. of course i wasnt there and dont know the circumstances, but you would think he would have noticed the truck slowing down....sad sad...
that awful one that happened on 40 back in 2010 between Barstow and Needles...where the one truck laid it over and then it caused a second accident...some AWFUL pics from that one....we woulda been in the middle of that mess if we hadnt stopped to take a nap. i tried to find it my threads i started but it didnt come up.
wish these accidents and pictures would make a difference and make people more attentive...."semi" retired Thanks this.
