I-94 in WI closed at College Ave

I-94 in Wisconsin closed at College Ave, Eastbound and Westbound.
Power line down across the freeway.

Expected closures to last until 5 or 6 PM.




MILWAUKEE -- Interstate 94 is closed in both directions near College Avenue, according to the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Department.
Beat The Backup

We Energies said a power pole snapped near 17th Street and Ramsey. The wires are crossing the interstate.
Traffic heading northbound is being directed off at College Avenue. Southbound traffic is being routed off to westbound Interstate 894. No through traffic can travel south of the Mitchell Interchange.
Motorists heading to the airport from the north should take the Howard Avenue exit to Howell Avenue. Motorists from the south can exit at College Avenue to Howell Avenue.
The closure is expected to last until 5 to 6 p.m.
We Energies will need to erect a new pole, the Sheriff's Department said.
We Energies said 1,000 customer are without power.

Alternate Routes From DOT

Alternate Route to I-43/94 Northbound from I-94 West (Northbound): To access I-43/94 northbound traffic should exit I-94 west (northbound) at College Avenue or Rawson Avenue or Ryan Road. Turn right at the end of the ramp(s) and head east on the alternate route towards Howell Avenue. Turn left onto Howell Avenue and head north towards Howard Avenue. Turn left on Howard Avenue and head west towards the I-43/94 northbound entrance ramp on the right.

Alternate Route to I-43/894 Westbound from I-94 West (Northbound): To access I-43/894 westbound traffic should exit I-94 west (northbound) at College Avenue or Rawson Avenue. Turn left at the end of the ramp(s) and head west on the alternate route towards 27th Street. Turn right on 27th Street and head north towards Layton Avenue. Turn left on Layton Avenue and head west towards Loomis Road. Turn right on Loomis Road and head north towards the I-43/94 northbound entrance ramp on the left.

Alternate Route to I-94 east (southbound) from Mitchell Interchange: To access I-94 east (southbound) traffic should exit at Airport Spur. Continue east on Airport Spur and Exit at Howell Avenue. Turn right onto Howell Avenue and head south towards College Avenue. Turn right on College Avenue and head west towards the I-94 east (southbound) entrance ramp on the left.

 

Opened back up at around 645p-7pm or so.
Traffic is flowing normal now.

Media says a TRUCK knocked down the wires. I don't buy that but either way it wouldn't be the trucking companies fault. If the heat brought the wires to the point of sag that they came in contact with a CMV, then the electric company needs to address that.
