An exit ramp might have been a bit extreme.
In this day and age someone somewhere will give you a chance.

It was more like a putty knife and steel wool. People think its just a new mattress, but unidentified stains apear just about everywhere. Nasty with a capital N.

    HHHmmmm,,,

    no it's not.

more often than not, i'd get asked what i did for a job.

when i told them "truck driver", they'd walk away. like i was carrying the plague, and that was in my earlier years.

i learnt a long time ago after that and a few other times, to just say "traveling salesman of auto parts" since i was a former wrencher.

I am still in the business.. I work and drive when I have to. I have stopped losing sleep over the things that my/the drivers do. I cannot MAKE the drivers do what they should or learn what they should. I have explained for years that I am NOT the executioner. If they do not do what they need to do (and several events) that I watch them come into the room, stand on the stool, place the noose around their own necks and jump off the stool. I document the event and take the body away.. that is how I see my place in the transportation world these days. I train, retrain, train them again and then after they just don't care enough to change, learn or get better.. I pull for them, will support them when they are in the right work with them to learn more skills or information.. but its STILL up to them in the end.

Well? Taco Tuesdays can't just be wasted. And food poisoning happens. Sometimes often.

i could never do that...talk to them, and retrain them, over and over again.

i ran a garage decades ago, i'd hire a kid right out of trade school, and he'd had better learn real freaking quick how things are done, if not perfect, at least very well. sure screw up's happen, but so do lawsuits. no, we did not have nuclear lawsuits back then, but they could still cost a company lots of money. so i never wanted to get into one due to someone NOT doing the job right.

if anyone i hired did not meet my expectations within xx amount of time, he was GONE, no if's and's or but's........

i had to run my business to the bone, for reputation and return customers.

but training, and retraining, like you do..??

uh, no way Jose`, once since they are newbies, then make 1 correction, then that's about it.

    JoeyJunk Thanks this.
