which company is that? do they take teams? Also my wife wants to come back driving, she's been out of the loop for 4 years, probably have to take a refresher course, do they have that available with the company you're talking about?

Not to be a smarta##, but my post followed the post on CRST, and therefore, would be in conjunction with that company. If you have to ask what's going on, you probably don't have enough focus to drive tractor trailers.

Someone may have already said it, but try some local dump truck companies. It should be picking up again pretty soon when the better weather rolls in. Another suggestion is to contact your local refuse haulers. Driving a garbage truck isn't the most glamorous job, but it pays decent and gives you seat time.

Wow, I really wasted my time and $$$ getting my CDL. I've had my CDL for 4 months now and nothing. Most companies say that it's ok to have a felony if it's over 7 years old, that's BS. Mine is 13 years old and it happened when I was 16. Also, it's not a crime thats drug or violence related. I've posted in here before about this issue and got some replies that said,"It shouldn't be a problem and you're just not trying hard enough." If you're a felon and just got your CDL you will NOT find work.

yes you stand a better chance of getting established this way give it a try get exp behind the wheel localy and then try a smaller local freight company that is OTR....get a job ASAP it will help out no crime in driving a garbage truck its a ride and you need that now.....jobs with big companies are scarce right now so they are taking the best applicants....meaning no issues right now.......get your verifiable then streach your wings and fly:biggrin_25511:

Under normal circumstances, you probably wouldn't have too much trouble, but companies are in a position to be very choosy right now, seeing as how they've been flooded with applications.

Not to be a smarta##, but I don't think I was replying to you, ya see, if 5 people post while I'm typing my post goes behind them. The reason I don't think I was replying to you is, I know all about CRST. We drove for them in 2000-2001 and won't be going back. As for your opinion, "If you have to ask what's going on, you probably don't have enough focus to drive tractor trailers."you're what's wrong with trucking today. This forum is all about asking what's going on, smart-mouthing peoples questions helps no-one.

"Best" applicant defined as Newb, with no baggage. Living within their hiring area, and willing to work for less than an experienced driver.

There are companies hiring. They are typically smaller companies, and do not use the web for applications, or spend outrageous amounts on advertising. I overheard one of our "recruiters" stating they got 50 apps, with a $75 newspaper ad.

Keep an eye on local papers, many have online want ads that are updated religiously. Our local is updated at 1am in the morning. Long before the actual paper hits the front yard. And long before the average unemployed person gets up to read it.

I lucked out. And the company I'm working for, actually had a web site and online application which I had filed out, before opening hours that morning. Had a call by 9am.

Look Bro, you're the type of person that makes a driver appear to have an attitude. You come in here, asking a vague question to NO one specifically. Everyone is here trying to help or time better spent doing other things wouldnt be wasted responding to questions asking for help/advice/etc. It's not that people here are being rude. If you were not replying to red, then you should have been a little more specific in the details of your post. I dont know about red (but I suspect this may be true about him, I know it is me) I took mind reading in high school, but unfortunatley, I failed that class.
