I talked to Willis Shaw, liked what I heard, they said they would hire me but they cant due to my termination from Werner -
Harleyman there is no doubt there is a seat just waiting for you out there. Ive read this thread from the start and ive got to give you credit for trying. In this economy you WILL NOT GET A JOB WITH A BIG CARRIER. The driver pool is very qualified right now with this economy.
The problem here is your looking in the wrong places. Your first job in this economy will be with a small company.
My story started in 1992 when I went to a local tractor trailer school and the economy then was not great but was on it's way up. There were some OTR offers i got but i was not interested in JB or Schneider at the time. I did what MOST said couldnt be done. I spent a couple of days planning a job spree within thirty miles of my house. I looked at the phone books and local papers for as many companies as i could find and planned a one day spree. (sorry we didnt have the internet then)
I went to the first in person and asked to speak with the dispatcher. I went with the straight talk approach. My name is ########## and i am a recent graduate from ###### tractor trailer school. I went to school in the hopes that i could one day drive for your company. I have a passion for driving and love being around trucks. I feel although i have no expierence i did very well in school and I would love to have the chance to one day drive for your company. I would be willing to start anywhere including loading trucks in the hopes i will one day have the chance to drive. You can use me day or night and I would be willing to work any hours you need filled.
Guess what!!!!!!!!!! The guy said ok would you be willing to take a driving test now!!!!!!! Oh $%&(* i wasnt expecting this!!!!!!!! Sure i said but remember i just graduated school. He laughed and said come with me. He put me in a truck with an older driver and said see what this guy can do. We did some dock backing and went down the road grinding a few along the way, LMAO I was a nervous wreck and the old timer said relax you will be fine. After ten minutes i started banging them out like a Pro. We got back to the yard and the Dispatcher said fill out this application and i will see what i can do. Twenty pages later and severe writers cramp i was done and handed it to him. He said go here and take a drug test and as soon as i get your results i will put you on the next day.
A week later i got a call from him and my dream job at Roadway Express began!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes a fresh meat newbee working for Roadway Express.
My point here is with a little honesty and pounding the pavement you will find something like i did. You most likely wont be as LUCKY as I was but it will happen. Dont expect anything by talking to a desk clerk or filling out an application and leaving. Talk to someone in Dispatch or a driver and be honest and sincere. An online application or speaking with a desk clerk is a waste of time.
Try It and you will be surprised at the response you get.
How much info do you get from someones post here on the web?????????? There is no real person involved through a screen or a piece of paper!!!!!!!!!! You must make your impression in person.
Good Luck and go get um!!!!!!!!!!!! -
I feel for you. Keep trying. I have 2.5 years of experience OTR and I can't find a job. I was arrested in a CMV for Driving under the influence, and Alcohol in a CMV. I was fired from my company on the spot, 1583 miles from home. I am innocent and cleared of ALL charges. I live in MN now and I can't get anyone to even talk to me. They hear the charges and that I was terminated and its "NO THANKS". I'm looking for a recruiter that actually works for a driver with difficulties. My DAC is clean. I have no accidents, no speeding, still I can't get anything. JUST DON'T GIVE UP!!!!!!

A lot of companies won't take you if you've been fired, what ever the reason. It's the ##!%ing insurance companies! They run our world.
