(Where do they find these BURNT OUT TRUCKERS that think they are better than anyone else and dont need "fixing" themselves)............................ Anyway:
Edward I wish you the best of luck, from what you described in regards to your own limitations- IMO i think trucking is a good fit for you also like chinatown said. Just remember that OTR (over the road) ISN'T your only option when it comes to driving a truck, there are local jobs out there that might fit what you want also.
good luck to ya and keep this thread updated!
I am an antisocial MBA student considering a whole new career in trucking.

You can be a driver,sure.
Its a solitary life on the toad.
As fas as the anti social thing,
I don't care for people either.
Ive spent the majority of my life
" Faking it" when it comes to all the games
in this world.
Road life has it's problems.
The fatigue at times is as close to hell as one get, figuratively speaking.
The mind begins to cook itself.
The road is an energy drain.
The trucking companies and their ilk can be downright depressing.
Just scan the rage and anger in many of the post at this forum.
I wouldn't recommend trucking to anyone,
I'd say seek other avenues of work if at all possible.scottied67 Thanks this. -
This job is like smoking.. if you dont smoke, dont start.. the biggesr reward here is your pride and adventire.
With the sort of degree you have you "IMHO" work on your field while going back to school and shoot at something you'd be passionate about.
Trucking has killed my 3 marriages, and people have passed away I couldn't even see for a last time because of it so that being said if you get in and get past the first year your life will change..Siberius Thanks this. -
Siberius Thanks this. -
Good points...he may be setting himself up for problems when...not if , he runs into a horse's hind-end of a dispatcher , or an idiot driving a forklift.......neither one of them will care 1 little bit about his affliction...he can't expect ( he hasn't come forward and said this either)..but , he can't expect folks to just walk on egg shells around him , for fear of hurting his feelings...best to use that degree on something that is far less stressful a job choice. I wish him the best of luck , as has been said there are lots of folks with this affliction....Good luck to him in his search for a niche in trucking.Siberius and DriverToBroker Thank this. -
Granted, it's not for everyone though. As close as I'd ever want to get to OTR is regional, out during the week and home on weekends.
But, basically, things like etiquette and social ques and graces come as foreign concepts to us, where it might be second nature to others. That often leads to people thinking we're jerks when we're not trying to be. Although granted you can't please everybody.
In the case of myself, I knew there was something different about me than other people all my life. Nobody could figure out what, even overpaid therapists. Then one time I heard something to the effect of "people with something called Asperger's Syndrom don't play well with others. So one day about 8 years or so ago I walked into a library and seen a book on an endrow shelf, almost by divine intervention. So I picked it up and started reading. Then all the pieces began to fall into place, so to speak.double yellow and Siberius Thank this. -
I don't think he would have a problem getting into trucking. Being a loner is almost a mandatory requirement for truckers.
I just think it's a waste to get to the MBA and throw it all away. Business majors do not have to be good with people. There are different paths in business. I don't think business administration, management, or marketing is the right path for a person lacking people skills. A better path in business fields is finance, IT, accounting. Many of those jobs are done alone at a computer desk, crunching numbers on spreadsheets and compiling reports.DrivingForceBehindYou Thanks this. -

To all attacking critics on this thread...I never said anything disrespectful to edward, He clear things up in his 1st reponse to my post....he sould of re-worded his title from "anti-social' to what he's got...Edward of course you can drive a truck..but really, you are really "over-thinking" things about how to respond to the interviewer ..just be you & you'll be fine

tonythetrucker maybe you should go in and take the full spectrum of mental health test to see how you are not normal. You see normal mental health is an average and basically no one is there. So you stand a good possibility of having something that makes you not normal as all of us do. The idea that people with a definable mental health eccentricity not be allowed to own guns or drive trucks is very harsh. My granddaughter has full blown autism. She killed her first deer when she was 13. Been shooting since she was six. She is a soccer team star because she always has her focus on the ball and goal. If you took all the people off the road that ADHD, autism, dyslexia, various LDs anxiety disorders and other so called mental problems you'd really have a drivers shortage. You would also notice that people you respected and thought were real pros would be gone. If you add the people that suffer from things like thyroid and adrenal disorders and all the other glandular things that affect the brain that drs rarely diagnose we would probably have a national crisis on are hands.
fld and rainyday lover Thank this.
