Hey Broken Spoke, My cousin drove for windy hill out of Wisconsin. They are a really good mom and pop company. He loved driving for them because they left him alone. Might be something to consider besides the mega-companies. A lot less paperwork and qualcomming (is that a word?) He got really good miles and everyone that worked there was really laid back. Try giving them a shout and see what they have to offer.

Orientation can be a lot of fun! Wish you luck on your new career! It might seem a little tough during your training but stick with it. Remember it is not only a new career but a new way of living. It is going to take you three months for you to get into the groove of things and be relaxed and know how to handle everything on your own. Be safe!

Well, I am on the 3d day of training at Schneider in Green Bay. So far everything is going GREAT! They set us up at a motel and have provided us 3 meals a day. My first 2 days were mostly in the classroom learning the paperwork and getting the physical. Today was my first day going out with a trainer and some backing exercises. If all works out this Friday they will send me home for reset and then out on the road with a trainer for 7-14 days if I make it through that I will be issued my first truck and start working for a living. They don't give us much time to get on line as we are at the school from 6am-4pm and they work us so hard all we want to do is get back to the motel and crash! (welcome to truck driving!). I will try to post more this week if time permits

I have made it through another day here at Schneider's training academy. They have started thinning out the herd so to speak as yesterday 3 students quietly disappeared out of class and were not seen again. If I make it through Thursday night it will meen I am hired. So far everything has went smooth I have got all passing grades with all their written tests and driving. The Qualcomm trip plan almost thru me its a complicated procedure for sure!. I will let ya all know if I get to the over the road part of the school. On a sad note, Yesterday my wife's 24 year old relative was driving to work in his mini cooper car it was pouring rain his car slid and spun out he went under the tandems of a loaded semi and was crushed to death. His mother was 1 mile behind him traveling on the same street and when she drove passed the seen she recognised her sons car. IT was sad for sure to die at such a early age!. The truck driver said all he felt was a "BUMP" he locked his breaks up and the truck spat out the car.

I just read this. I'm sorry to read about the loss of your wife's relative. That has to be a driver's worst nightmare! I really feel for the mother who basically witnessed the aftermath of this crash and lost her child. A mother should never have to endure this.

Broke spoke-so sorry to hear of your and your family's loss. How hard as
OpenRoadGuy said for both your family and the driver-and you training to be a driver.
My prayers are with you and yours.
