yeah that's the one thing I miss about that 84 Kenworth k100 cabover fully stretched out and that 48 spread..full West Coast set up boy t she look good
I don't miss though how crazy I had to drive moving that produce back in the early nineties though LOL... sometimes I look back now wonder how the helll did I make it out of certain places alive.. and not been like Neil Young and burned out and faded away... I was definitely going out of the blue and into the black if I didn't give up what I did in 1995 man.
I am confused on my CAT Scale weight

I think the real problem is u spend 100 dollars on scale tickets but ur legal all the way around.just run it driver, leave those smart queations to the engineers that make these plastic things

Your 5th wheel is in wrong place. Move it forwardMartinFromBC Thanks this.
-
Unless you need the clearance for turning you need to unbolt your 5th wheel and move it ahead. Get it to where you’re a touch over 12k on your steer axle when your drives are right at 34k. Right now the way it is you can’t even scale a 80k gross load.
Oxbow, MartinFromBC, singlescrewshaker and 2 others Thank this. -
That may be bad advice, and the 5th wheel is probably where it is at because he probably has a front axle rated at 11.5k or so, and probably the weight ratings on the tires are around there too.
You may be good on the scales, but not if they are giving you a detailed inspection and look at the axle ratings. -
Do they even use any steer axle rated less than 12,000 on any class 8 truck, I don't think so.
Oxbow, singlescrewshaker and Long FLD Thank this. -
I know that it should be simple point load on the 5th wheel always distributes it the same between steer and drive axles, but my quandary is, why sometimes with 34 k on the drives and full tanks, I have more weight on the steers than other times.
-
Ok, agree to a point. 14 ply tires will get him over 12k. I can’t imagine anyone getting a set back front axle that is less than 13k. If he has a light axle for some reason then by his own admission he’s illegal bobtail full of fuel.
-
I doubt anyone would build a truck with one, especially a set back axle.
-
The 2010 Cascadia I was in a couple of years ago was under 12k. Might have been 11.8? It also only had spring brakes on one drive axle lol
-
Yes, you are right, I think that truck I had when I was figuring it out, the tires gave me about 12,300 or so, but the axle was even less, 11.5 or 11.8 or something like that.
