Mechanical would be new to me. But yes. Not like they are hard to repair. But preferably a series 60, or 3406E, or N14 In that order.

Oxbow and Vic Firth Thank this.

Actually about 2 hours is my total in a cabover. And I literally about broke my legs getting out. Falling from the step that did not exist.

I have spoke to a original owner of a 1984 kw900a 2 years ago his had a b model that was kept at 400 hp until it got tired, than he rebuilt or replaced it. 3 times he said. Each rebuild or engine was good for 1 million he said. And he ran flatbed but never raced and he swore he avg 6.0 mpg most of the time.

Oxbow and Vic Firth Thank this.

    Do you believe in portents?

Personally I think cabovers look great but I'm old and I'm old school.
In 1980 I got a brand new Freightliner cabover. I put just over a million miles on that truck. I didn't like it the last day any better than I did the first day.
When they replaced it with a Pete 359 I didn't argue a bit.

I'd take the N14 all day long. Nothing wrong with the other two, but I got great performance out of the N14.
I ran a Transtar like the one in the picture you posted. In the winter, my legs would freeze while my right side was roasting.

Oxbow and Vic Firth Thank this.

The 3406b was one of the most reliable motors ever built in my opinion. I had a DD60 in a freightliner FLD that was a strong motor but it drank to much oil.

Ke6gwf, Oxbow and Joetro Thank this.

My boss still runs his personal Argosy. If that counts.

I've been thinking real hard about the old 855 NTC fixed timed engines. As they will wind up to 2300 rpm no problem. I've been towed by one in Phoenix 2 years ago. It pulled hard.
