and myself this morning. Got a great load paying a fair rate for a 2500 mile run. New customer for the broker and we just broke down 1600 miles into the run. I wanted to get this one in early as I have a great contact for freight on the backhaul and hoping to make this a regular run. Not really considered a backhaul as the rate is comparable. I suspect the fuel pump but the shop will not get us in until tonight. Broker understands there is nothing we can do but a bit panicked about it. I hope the customer understands as I really like this young relationship we are building and I want more of these loads.
I am feeling a bit sorry for the broker

Been there done that. If the customer has a problem with it politely ask them would it really have made a difference? And when they say yes just make a note of that so when they hold you up for your unload for 6 hours you can hold it against them. Replacing a transfer pump isn't all that hard depending on the motor main cost is parts. $1750 for the last pump we put in, $10 in paint rest was labor total bill was $2150 labor was $100/hour but they also spent an hour figuring out the pump was the problem. And that is why I have since began to work on my own truck.

Turns out the problem was the oil sending unit. Also clogged manifold filter. About $500 bucks. Not too bad and a day quicker than I hoped.

Glad to hear the issue was more minor than initially thought. Do not feel bad for the broker, he didnt go out and buy a truck, insurance, diesel fuel, oil, plates, etc.....maybe feel bad for the receiver if they really needed the product. Nine times out of ten when a broker says it has to be there they really have no idea they are just saying that. Many times guys on the dock will say something to the effect of, " We didn't even need this delivered till next week " which is nice to know after they called you 8 times for the "check" call wondering where you are and why you haven't made it 900 miles in the 8 hours since you talked to them this morning.

Glad to hear it...hopefully you salvaged the load and relationship with the client, sounds like a good deal, hopefully it will turn into a regular run for you.

Yeah anytime something happens that you can't limp home and you get out $500 or less ought to feel pretty good. Glad you guys got it worked out, hopefully customer understands. Not all of them are butt's about that.

it comes down to things out of everyone's control. cuz breakdowns happen.
